Look Beauty In The Eye

Today I was scrolling around the internet, then I came across a video. The video wasn’t really anything too impressive at first glance. Basically it feautures a girl going around her school filming people saying they’re beautiful. Their responses are the part that I find amazing. One simple act. One simple reaction but the realisation is incredible.

I believe that every person who walks this earth has an element of beauty. Whether the beauty is on the outside or something internal everyone is beautiful in their own respect. Just because you don’t look like Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift or Cara Delevigne it doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful. I get that it’s not good to be cocky or arrogant. I understand that everyone has insecurities. I know that you might feel stupid looking in the mirror and thinking “I’m beautiful” because I would feel that way too. The thing I want you to remember is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You never know what someone else is thinking about you. On those days when you’re struggling to choose an outfit, on the days you’re breaking out, on the days you’ve got bags under your eyes there’s no need to worry about it. All of these things are frustrating but they’re also shallow. If someone can’t look past a couple of spots or a bad outfit choice maybe they’re not a true friend.

I challenge you to find something beautiful in every person you interact with for the next 24 hours. Whether it be something physical or a quality tell them how attractive it is. Tell them how much you appreciate that quality or feature. Whether it be the colour of their eyes or a gesture that means a lot to you thank them. Even try telling them they’re beautiful. It’s time we stop focusing on all the negative things and think about all the positives for a minute. You could spend the rest of your life thinking about all the bad stuff going on and wishing there was something you could do. Why not start small and make a few people’s day. It’s crazy how much the smallest gesture can mean to someone else, especially if they’re having a bad day.

The other thing I’ve taken away from this video is that diversity is so important. Can you imagine how boring life would be if everyone had the same coloured eyes, hair and skin. Imagine if everyone’s body was the same shape. Imagine if we all did the same job. Life would be so boring. It’s incredible how understanding humans have become. In terms or equality we  are making progress. While we’ve come so far there is a lot further we could go. Keep an open mind as you go about your daily routines. Rainbow hair, piercings, tattoos, religion, sexuality it’s not your life so don’t judge them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and just because it isn’t your thing that doesn’t mean someone else won’t find the beauty.

Things to Remember…

  1. Just because you’re different doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful.
  2. Above all diversity is beautiful.
  3. Have an amazing week!
