It’s 2016 and with a change in year comes an opportunity. An opportunity to think about everything you achieved in the previous year and an opportunity to look forward and plan for the coming year.
One thing that I learned in 2016 was that my first impression with people isn’t always good. Just like everyone else I have up and down days. It’s a natural part of life we have to experience the bad to appreciate the good. I believe it’s important to have balance in your life. One thing I do find particularly frustrating is first impressions. I try not to worry about what people think of me but I’ve noticed more and more people saying that thought I was a jerk when they first meet me. I think it is partially because I am always a little stand off-ish when I first meet people. I like to take my time to get to know people and don’t like to come across too intense too quickly. First impressions aren’t the only thing that matter in life but try and be aware of your mannerisms and body language when meeting new people. There are certain situations that really rely on a good first impression. Job interviews for one are a time when a good first impression is paramount.
2016 is going to be the year I learn to say no. I don’t like disappointing people and I don’t like letting people down if someone asks me to do something my response is always yes. While it is good to help people when and where you can it’s not always healthy to say yes to everything. There comes a time when you have to take into consideration your own life, your own situation and how much you’ve got to give. If you’re already feeling strained taking on more work or more responsibility isn’t always a good idea. Make sure you’ve got balance in you life. Get the work personal balance going and make sure you’ve got a social life to look forward to.
2016 is my year of adventures. I’ve got a pretty special group of friends and sharing experiences with them is always fun. In 2016 I am going to explore as many parts of the world that I possibly can. I want to go to as many places as I can and experience more of the world. We are so lucky to live in an age where travel is so attainable. Flights are not super expensive and there is an entire world out there to go and explore. Don’t sit back and let life pass you by go and do as much as you possibly can.
2016 is my year of health. I have way too many ‘Treat Yourself’ moments and I need to get back on track with the exercise and healthy eating regimes. Again this is an area that requires balance the all juice all salad diet isn’t one that is sustainable. Eat a mixed diet and exercise frequently. It’s not about being a stick insect it’s about filling your body with goodness, avoiding preservatives and things that aren’t so good for you. Stick to the 4 walls of the supermarket that’s where the fresh foods are kept.
Attitude is everything if you want to make the most of your 2016 choose a positive attitude. Not every day is going to be amazing you’ll have your fair share of struggles but experience life with a smile and don’t victimise yourself. Yes crappy things will happen but the “why me” attitude isn’t one you want to adopt. Life throws tests at you to see if you’re strong enough to get through it. You are. Hold your head high walk gracefully and accept any challenge that comes your way. There is nothing more attractive that someone who is willing to work hard.
Relationships are never easy whether it be a friend or someone special make time to consider their perspective. Try not to overthink and be judgemental. Everyone is just trying to find their way. We all make mistakes and true friends will always stand by you. Speak your thoughts and what is on your mind. Don’t be afraid to seek reassurance you’re entitled to comfort and security. While nothing lasts for ever enjoy every moment that you can. Create memories and cherish them all that you can.
Career path is taking shape and you’re not quite where you want to be yet have patients. It’s only a matter of time before you have your big break or get that promotion you’ve been working towards. Be diligent, show initiative and don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and ideas. If you’re not happy in your career don’t be afraid of change. It’s all too easy to get comfortable in your position. Being comfortable isn’t always what’s best for you. Test yourself, test your capabilities and prove you talent if not to those around you do it for yourself.
2016 is a year of dreams. It’s a year of planning what you want to do and doing it. Those thoughts you have can all become a reality with some hard work and passion. My one piece of advice for the new year is don’t let anyone dull your passion. If someone doesn’t believe in you don’t allow their negative energy to prevent you moving forward in your career. You passion and drive are the things that set you apart from your colleagues. Continue to do you best even when you think it’s going unnoticed.
I can’t wait to see what this year has in store and I look forward to sharing all of it with you!
Let 2016 be the best year yet.
