Expectations

Life is a journey, sometimes it feels endless but like every story life has a beginning, a middle and an end. I believe the middle part is the most important. It’s inevitable that life begins and ends but it’s what you make of your life that really counts. I’m not saying you have to make a lot of money or be the most successful in your career. I think the most rewarding thing in life is sharing your journey with the people around you. It’s about having connections with your peers, having a connection with yourself and making the most of every moment you have on this planet.

The journey of life comes with highs and lows, it’s all part of the experience. Often I think we’re so caught up in trying to make every moment seem like a great moment that we lose the real enjoyment that is sitting right in front of us. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and I think it has a lot to do with expectations. For a long time I have been building things up in my head so much that when they actually happen it’s not quite what I was expecting and I can’t help but feel let down. In recent times I’ve been trying not to have any expectations and just enjoy living in the moment. When was the last time you made no plans for the weekend and just saw where things went. It’s exciting waking up and not knowing what you’re going to do with the day. Next time you’ve got a weekend off where you don’t have to do anything or be anywhere try and leave a day wide open. Wake up early and go for a walk. Come home and stare at the roof for an hour while thinking about what you are thankful for in life. Get an ice cream. Eat fries, lots and lots of fries. Catch up with a friend you haven’t seen in months. Talk to yourself. Take photos. Do lots of little things that make you happy.

Sometimes it’s the most simple things that make us the most happy. For me having fresh sheets is one of the best feelings. There is nothing better than on a Sunday night jumping between the sheets with a movie on Netflix and feeling the freshness of clean sheets. Quite literally one of the most simple things but I enjoy it as much as a good shower. I think it’s important in life to enjoy the simple moments as much as you enjoy the exciting things. I think the thing we have to remember is that not everyday can be as exciting as going to a music festival. Not everyday is going to be a good day, and that is ok. Enjoy each day as much as you can and even if nothing goes your way make sure there is something that you are happy about. Clean your room, workout, make a delicious meal. The possibilities are endless, as humans we like to feel like we are being productive and making progress. It might not be a giant leap but the small steps we take on a daily basis can give our lives the purpose we need to maintain a healthy frame of mind.

I hope you have had the most magical weekend and that this week is full of excitement and progress.

All the love.
C
