Make the most of 2017

Before I kick into this post I just wanted to say HELLO! Sorry it has been so long! Life has been pretty crazy and I wanted to take some time to relax over summer but I am back and will be blogging a lot more from now on. For those of you who don’t know I have a new job hosting the night show on a local radio station called ZM. I am super excited for the show and will have time during the day so I will be able to blog more. If there is anything on your mind or something you’d like me to post about don’t hesitate to get in touch. Ok, enough jibber jabber let’s get into it!

I feel it’s a blanket rule than 2016 was a challenge. Job changes, relationship problems, family issues or maybe it just didn’t feel like the most productive year. Everyone I have spoken to lately has been stoked to see the back of 2016. For one reason or another 2016 was a struggle. While it’s important to feel challenged and have down days it is just as important to bounce back from them and ensure that no matter what you are feeling you are making progress.

With the new year comes a new opportunity. It’s a time of change, a time of reflection and a time for decision. You might not know what you want to do this year and that is totally fine. I feel like there is way to much pressure to have a 5 year plan. To know what you want to do for the rest of your life. The truth is most people change their job and career path multiple times in their working life. While it is important to be successful and have direction in life it is just as important to enjoy life and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. I feel we are so focused on growing and improving ourselves that we don’t actually enjoy the now. Make time every day to enjoy exactly what you’re doing. Put your phone down, turn off the TV and escape from the computer to just sit, relax and live in that moment then and there. This moment that you are experiencing is a moment that you will never get back. No other moment will be quite like this moment and that is one of the most exciting things.

I don’t believe that happiness is a choice. Happiness is dependant on so many different aspects but I feel attitude is a choice and with the right attitude happiness is a lot more attainable. There’s a saying which my mum used to say to me a lot as a child. “Treat others as you would like to be treated” it’s pretty simple but it is so true. One of my biggest frustrations in life is people looking down on someone because of their job. It quite honestly infuriates me. A job or career isn’t a representation of a person and what they’re capable of. Some people are lucky, some get their break, some don’t. Ariana Grande is an incredibly talented person and has had an extremely successful career but why does she get to experience all of that while there are people with amazing voices who don’t ever get the opportunity to sing to a crowd. This is something I often think about but then I just get frustrated.

There are so many things going on in the world that I don’t agree with. There are so many things I wish I could change but unfortunately I don’t have the power to change these things. Sometimes as humans we have these ideas, we want to change things and if our situations were different maybe we could do more. Don’t ever beat yourself up for not being able to contribute as much as you would like to. The small things matter just as much as the big. Everything in life is dependent on it’s relativity to your life. For someone like Taylor Swift donating $25,000 to a cause isn’t a difficult thing for her to decide. I would love to be able to donate $25,000 to a charity or pay for someones university fees but unfortunately at this point in my life I am unable to do that. The things I can do are encourage people to be kind to each other, I can try and spread awareness about different charities and causes. Your contribution is relevant to your situation and is greatly appreciated. I am a big believer in what goes around comes around, which when you write it down it seems so selfish. Give without the expectation to receive.

What ever your goals are for this year, what ever resolutions you have set yourself remember that an enjoyable life is a life worth living. 2017 is your year. Dream big and believe in those dreams. You deserve every single one of your dreams to come true. It might require hard work but that’s what makes it all worthwhile.
