Lauv – ‘Chasing Fire’

The best thing about living in New Zealand is getting music a few hours before the rest of the world. Today is a massive day for Lauv as he embarks on another chapter of his story releasing “Chasing Fire.” This isn’t the first time and it definitely won’t be the last time I post about Lauv. I have loved his sound since I first listened to “The Other” as his sound progresses so does my love for his music.

“Chasing Fire” is yet another relatable love song. This is the unfinished love story. It’s the situation you know isn’t right for you but for what ever reason you give it a go anyway. “I’m chasing fire when I’m running after you” we’ve all had that person that we know isn’t right but you just can’t help but wonder what it would be like if things did work out. There is that moment when you’re a few dates into a new relationship and you just don’t know what the future holds. “I was driving you home, even if I go, even if I stay” it’s the excitement of the unknown and the fear of rejection.

The song remains true to Lauv’s signature driving beat, something which makes his songs so catchy. Even if you don’t have a musical bone in your body you’ll be tapping your foot in time to this one. The upbeat flowing melodies provide a contrast to the emotional tone of the lyrics. This contrast is the perfect play on the bittersweet emotion confronted by the song.

Lauv’s sound is so unique, you can spot a Lauv song from a mile away. The thing I love about his music is the fact that each song does have it’s own sound. I have noticed with some artists lately that they find their sound and a lot of their songs sound similar. Musically Lauv is diverse which makes an exciting experience when listening to his music.

While getting lost in the entrancing melodies the lyrics remain relatable. New relationships are always exciting but equally they are daunting. So many questions running through your mind. So many wavering thoughts. The song is fun, catchy and I’m not at all complaining when I say I think we will be hearing a lot more of this song in the weeks coming.
