Despicable Me 2 Movie Review

I’m not usually a fan of animated films at all but when it comes to Despicable Me, Finding Nemo, Toy Story or Monsters Inc there are exemptions to be made. Despicable me 2 is so cleverly made but I really do think the minion are what make the movie.

Wile there is a 3d and 2d version I really don’t think this is the kind of movie you need to see in 3d I did only see the 2d version so I can’t comment on the 3d features but generally theres just a few moments where things pop out and the majority of the movie you don’t even notice it. Sometimes I am so disctracted by working out which bits are 2 and 3d I miss an important point in the storyline.

The animation of the film is so realistic and crisp some bits almost look like they could be real. The vivid imagery is so breath taking it transports you from reality to a world that really doesn’t exist. The detail is so clear that you really do get entranced into the world of Despicable Me.

The characters portrayed in the movie are excatly what you would hope they would be. The kids are beyond cute, the minions next level adorable and who can’t fall in love with Gru, he is so caring but sinister at the same time it’s intriguing to watch his character develop throughout the film. Romance is featured in an effect way that isn’t smutty or over the top so obviously it’s kid friendly.

The actors/voice overs are incredible. I’ve always been a massive fan of Miranda Cosgrove from her days on Drake and Josh and she’s come so far as an actress since then it’s awesome to see her progress. Arguably the funniest man in Hollywood Steve Carell doesn’t disappoint either. His performance in this film is top notch.

The thing I love about this movie is that it’s not over the top. Often movies like this are too babyish or too corny. This remains in a class of it’s own. It’s cleverly constructed to include jokes adults would find funny but kids wouldn’t quite pick up on. Definitely one for the whole family or maybe good just to go and reminisce your childhood.

If you haven’t already Despicable Me 2 is a must see! I hope you enjoy it!
